Profilocolore is a beneficiary of UNVEIL – Unified Non-destructive Evaluation of Historical Artifacts, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network funded under Horizon Europe. The program brings together leading European universities, research centers, museums, and companies to develop non-destructive diagnostic methods for cultural heritage.
- Scientific contribution
Profilocolore contributes to the UNVEIL Doctoral Network by developing next-generation tools for the integration of multi-sensor imaging and AI-driven data fusion in cultural heritage diagnostics. Our work focuses on unifying information from colorimetry, multispectral and hyperspectral imaging, THz, infrared thermography, and ultrasound to provide a deeper and more accurate understanding of works of art. We share doctoral students with: Georgia Tech University of Metz (FR), the Louvre Museum in Paris (FR), La Sapienza University of Rome (IT), and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU (NO), contributing expertise in:
- Cross-modal alignment algorithms that enable precise matching between surface and subsurface imaging techniques.
• Hardware and software calibration procedures that harmonize heterogeneous sensors and ensure repeatable and metrologically reliable measurements.
• Advanced post-processing methods (neural networks, PCA, ICA, evolutionary algorithms) to reduce redundancy and extract meaningful features from complex multi-sensor datasets.
• Integrated evaluation workflows that that transform calibrated and fused data into high-fidelity Digital Twins, providing a comprehensive and non-invasive representation of the structure.
Through these innovations, Profilocolore goes beyond the current state of the art, enabling diagnostic analyses that no single technique can provide on its own, and supporting conservation, research, and public engagement with an unprecedented level of precision.
